Background of the Study
Cardiac care is a highly specialized area of nursing that requires a combination of clinical skills, knowledge, and experience to manage complex cardiovascular conditions (Eze et al., 2023). Nurses are key players in delivering quality cardiac care, performing vital tasks such as monitoring patients, administering medications, and assisting with advanced procedures (Okeke et al., 2024). In Enugu State, cardiac diseases are a major health concern, and the quality of care provided by nurses is crucial for improving patient outcomes. The experience level of nurses is often considered a critical factor in determining the quality of care delivered in clinical settings, particularly in specialized areas such as cardiology (Chigozie et al., 2023).
Previous studies have suggested that more experienced nurses are better equipped to handle complex cases and make quick, informed decisions that lead to improved patient outcomes (Nwachukwu et al., 2024). However, the relationship between nurses’ experience levels and the quality of cardiac care in Enugu State has not been extensively researched. This study aims to examine how the experience levels of nurses impact the quality of cardiac care provided in Enugu State, with the goal of identifying areas where training and professional development could enhance the care provided.
Statement of the Problem
In Enugu State, the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases highlights the need for high-quality cardiac care. Nurses with varying levels of experience contribute to the delivery of this care, but there is a lack of understanding about how experience influences the quality of cardiac care. Factors such as nurse training, clinical experience, and decision-making ability may play a critical role in ensuring the provision of high-quality care for patients with heart conditions. This study seeks to explore the relationship between nurses’ experience levels and the quality of cardiac care in Enugu State, with the aim of improving care standards in the region.
Objectives of the Study
1. To investigate the relationship between nurses’ experience levels and the quality of cardiac care in Enugu State.
2. To assess the impact of experience levels on the clinical decision-making and patient outcomes in cardiac care.
3. To identify strategies to improve the quality of cardiac care in Enugu State based on nurses' experience levels.
Research Questions
1. How does the experience level of nurses influence the quality of cardiac care in Enugu State?
2. What is the impact of nurses’ experience levels on clinical decision-making and patient outcomes in cardiac care in Enugu State?
3. What strategies can be implemented to improve the quality of cardiac care in Enugu State based on nurses’ experience levels?
Research Hypotheses
1. Nurses with more experience provide higher-quality cardiac care compared to those with less experience in Enugu State.
2. The experience level of nurses significantly influences their clinical decision-making and patient outcomes in cardiac care in Enugu State.
3. Implementing strategies to enhance the experience levels of nurses will improve the quality of cardiac care in Enugu State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nurses working in cardiac care units in Enugu State. The research will assess how their experience levels affect the quality of care provided to patients with cardiovascular conditions. Limitations include potential biases in self-reported data regarding experience and the limited scope of data collection from specific hospitals.
Definitions of Terms
